Yoga Nidra is not merely relaxation
The world is discovering what India has never forgotten.
A recent LinkedIn article by Silvie Claes points to something remarkable: India has been ranked the world’s #1 wellness destination - recognised for its traditions of Yoga, Ayurveda, spiritual wellness and preventive care.
From my perspective, there is a deeper question.
What happens when we stop looking at Indic Wisdom merely as something to experience, and begin to learn it?
Mere experience (like massage, therapy etc) is essential to invigorate the body and constant dependency on someone is inevitable.
Now, what if we focus on the preventive side of health, wellness and well-being… we will realise that…
Yoga is not only about postures.
Yoga Nidra is not merely relaxation.
Antar Mouna us not just mind gazing.
And inner work, in general, is not an escape from life.
At its heart is an invitation to turn attention inward - consciously, systematically and with awareness.
Antar Mouna helps us learn to observe the movements of the mind without immediately engaging with them.
Yoga Nidra takes us into a state between waking, dreaming and deep sleep, while retaining an element of awareness - creating a powerful field for observation, practice and inner exploration.
This is why, at Shrimath, Yoga Nidra is approached not as a wellness trend, but as a traditional practice to be understood, experienced and integrated into life.
For some, it may be a doorway to deep rest.
For many, a way of understanding the mind.
For a few, a disciplined contemplative practice.
And for others, simply the beginning of a more intimate relationship with themselves.
India may have become the world’s wellness destination.
Perhaps it is time for us to rediscover India as a “wisdom destination.”
Our Yoga Nidra Immersion is an opportunity to do just that - through learning, practice, silence, Antar Mouna and Yoga Nidra, in the living environment of Shrimath or at the feet of Neem Karoli Baba.

1 - 4 October at Kainchi Dham, Kakrighat & Kasar Devi
