From Intention → Purification → Self-attention → Silence
In many spaces today, Sankalpa is spoken of as a tool for getting what we want.
Through Shrimath Yoga Nidra - a 9 level system the participants experience Sankalpa coming true with a consistent Level 4 practice itself.
In the Ramana–Muruganar tradition, Sankalpa ie resolve is treated very differently.

Ramana Maharshi asks with radical simplicity: “எண்ணம் யாருக்கு எழுகிறது?”
Meaning: To whom does this thought arise?
With this one question, Sankalpa turns inward.
Not towards outcomes, but towards the one who is wanting.
Muruganar clarifies this arc more precisely in Guru Vachaka Kovai (1146):
நோய் இருக்கும் வரை மருந்து தேவை.
நலம் வந்தபின் மருந்து தேவையில்லை.
✨ Sankalpa is needed as medicine
✨ The Self is health
✨ When health is restored, the medicine falls away
This maps a profound inner journey:
Intention 👉Purification 👉 Self-attention 👉 Silence
At Shrimath Yoga, this is exactly how we hold Sankalpa in Yoga Nidra. Post level 4, the purpose of Sankalpa is redirected to Self-discovery.
Not as affirmation.
Not as manifestation.
Not as wish-fulfilment.
But as a
- discipline for steadying the mind
- way of reducing reactivity
- bridge into Self-attention
And something that is eventually outgrown
Yoga Nidra, in this context, becomes a sacred preparation 🌼
✨ the nervous system settles
✨ the inner field becomes receptive
✨ Sankalpa does its quiet work
and then… attention is invited to rest in itself 🧘♂️
Silence is, then, not produced… but revealed 😇
What Ramana and Muruganar point to through Self-inquiry, Yoga Nidra prepares for through deep rest and inner stillness.
If this way of understanding Sankalpa resonates with you, just know that ‘Shrimath Yoga Nidra’ explores these inner movements experientially: slowly, safely, and with lineage clarity.
